One of the coolest bakery spots in Oaxaca right now. Think  pastries meets Oaxaca ingredients.  

Must try:

  • Danish riobarbo and jamaica  bread with cream

 

 

CRIOLLO

📍 Francisco I. Madero 129, Centro
One of Oaxaca’s most famous restaurants by chef Enrique Olvera. Minimalist, ingredient-focused Oaxacan cuisine with beautiful architecture and gardens.

Must try:

  • tasting menu

  • mole dishes

  • seasonal vegetables

  • mezcal pairings

 




LOS DANZANTES

📍 Macedonio Alcalá 403, Centro

A classic Oaxaca spot with a beautiful courtyard and elevated traditional cuisine. Very good for dinner + mezcal.

Must try:

  • duck tacos

  • mole tasting

  • mezcal cocktails

  • pork belly




 

CASA OAXACA

📍 Constitución 104-A, Centro

Probably one of the most iconic restaurants in Oaxaca. Known for refined Oaxacan cuisine, rooftop dining, and amazing service.

Must try:

  • mole negro

  • hoja santa dishes

  • grilled shrimp

  • mezcal cocktails




 

TIERRA DEL SOL 

📍 Reforma 411, Centro

Chef Olga Cabrera’s restaurant focuses on Mixtec and Oaxacan culinary traditions, native corn, and local producers. The restaurant received a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition.  

Must try:

  • atoles

  • mole dishes

  • huevos escondidos

  • tlayudas

  • handmade tortillas





 

LOS PACOS

📍 Belisario Domínguez 108, Reforma

Known for serving multiple traditional Oaxacan moles in one place. More traditional/local vibe than trendy.

Must try:

  • mole sampler

  • enchiladas de mole

  • tasajo

  • chocolate de agua



 

 

MERCADO LA MERCED

📍 José María Morelos 1522A, Centro

More local and less touristy than Mercado 20 de Noviembre. Great for breakfast and traditional ingredients.

Must try:

  • memelas

  • tejate

  • fresh cheese

  • tamales



 

 

MERCADO 20 NOVIEMBRE

📍 20 de Noviembre 512, Centro

The most famous market in Oaxaca. Touristy but worth it for the experience — especially the legendary Pasillo de Humo.

Must try:

  • tasajo

  • cecina

  • tlayudas

  • chapulines

  • hot chocolate

 

 

TAQUERIA LECHONCITO DE ORO

📍 Calle de Los Libres s/n, Centro

Late-night taco spot that basically everyone in Oaxaca knows. Casual, chaotic, delicious

Must try: tacos de lechón



VAQUITA MARINA

📍 Ignacio Allende 109, Centro

One of the best seafood spots in Oaxaca, with an amazing rooftop

Must try:

  • oysters

  • ceviches

  • tuna tostadas
